The third day. There are five lakes in Shiretoko Peninsula. We visited one of them called Ikko.
While we were walking on the wooden road around the lake, we saw many deer. Suddenly, a little child screamed, “ Bear!” There was a child bear less than 10 meters away from us. We could take a photo of it.
After we enjoyed the nature of Shiretoko, we headed to Abashiri. Along the way, we stopped by Genseikaenn. It is famous for its wild flowers but the flower season had ended already. However, we enjoyed the scenery of both Sea of Ohotsuku and Saroma Lake at the same time.
At Abashiri, we had a chance to visit Abashiri prison. There is no contrary to the image of frozen prison located along the coast as in the movie “Agashiri Bangaichi”, it was in the gentle mountains. We stayed at Akann Lake that night, not at the prison.
The fourth day: Just returning to Tokyo. On the way to Kushiro airport, we could see the views of the giant farm land from the window of the bus. ‘It is not in Japan!’ I thought. It looked like the great flat farm land in the United States of America. Looking at that vast farm land, I remember feeling great.
Finally, we arrived at Kushiro Airport. It was only 20 degrees. We did not want to go back to Tokyo where the temperature is way higher, up to 30 degrees.
